They say things happen for a reason. I am a true believer in that. It was 1994 and I was working my way through College working as a Dispatcher and driving a Taxi Cab to get through school. When around 4:00 AM I picked up a young man at a Granny’s Donuts in the City of Anaheim, This young man informed me he just got off work. But barely a mile into his ride to take him to what was suppose to be his house, he pulled a gun on me and car jacked me. Fortunately for me he didn’t use the gun. But having a gun up against your head would be a bit unnerving. He ended up making me get out of the car, and he took off in it, where they found it at a Hotel in Fullerton with the suspect nowhere to be found.
That was enough for me as a cab driver. I went back to the office and let them know I would not be working there anymore.
So I immediately started looking for a new job, and found an ad for a job opening with Paragon Cable in Garden Grove. I was lucky enough to have been hired right away. And to this day I am still in the Telecommunications field. I went through mergers with the company having it go from Paragon, to AOL Time Warner, to Time Warner and to where it is currently at with Spectrum.
Leaving Spectrum in 2019 to embark on my own as an Authorized Vendors of Broadband and Video products with Leading Companies only made me look back as to how far the Television and Internet has come in the last 27 years. We have gone to what use to be about 40 channels to over 200 channels.
But the biggest advancement has been in the Internet. Most of you have probably never experienced having to hear the ear piercing sound of your phone modem as it tries to connect to the internet. And those AOL disc’s. It seemed everywhere you went from grocery stores to your local video store, it seemed to have the latest version of AOL to go home and upgrade to just to make sure “you’ve got mail”.
The internet has gone from a 56k dial up to its most modern speed of up to 1GIG. What used to take a minute or so to download a page now changes at a blink of an eye.
